What does test-retest reliability refer to?

Test-retest reliability signifies the degree to which a test yields consistent results over time when administered to the same subjects. This involves running the same test on the same participants on two different occasions, under similar conditions, and then comparing the scores or results. If the results are similar or consistent across both attempts, it demonstrates high test-retest reliability.

This concept is critical in ensuring that assessments used in occupational therapy (as well as other fields) are stable and reliable over time, enabling therapists to confidently assess clients’ progress or changes in their condition.
